Dear Parent/Guardian
BE BRIGHT DAY/CHILDREN IN NEED – Thank you to pupils and parents who contributed to the Be Bright non-uniform day in school last Friday.  The fantastic sum of £316.00 was raised which will be divided between school funds and the Children In Need charity.  Your generosity and support is much appreciated.
VIOLIN TUITION – Places remain available for any P4 pupil who would be interested in learning to play the violin.  If you would like your child to have an audition with Mrs Gul in school tomorrow, please contact the school office on 028 2589 1265 or complete and return the attached reply slip.
FLUTE TUITION – We are delighted to inform parents that Mr Bingham will return to school next Thursday to take pupils for their flute lessons.  Please ensure that your child brings their instrument to school.
REMINDER P7 LEAVER HOODIES – The deadline for ordering leaver hoodies is Monday 15 November.  If you wish to place an order and have not already done so, please make your payment through Parentpay now.  This will enable us to have the order with the supplier so that hoodies could be delivered before the Christmas holidays.  Samples have been made available for the pupils to try on and staff have been helping with sizing.
P5,P6,P7 FOOTBALL – Please note: Afterschool football for P5 – P7 will finish today.

WALK KELLS TO KELLS - School intends to raise some funds for resources through a sponsored walking event around the school grounds. The event will take part within the safety of the school grounds and away from traffic.  We are calling our walk ‘Kells to Kells’. The distance from Kells, County Antrim and Kells, County Meath is 109 miles.  Walking there and back would amount to 218 miles. This would be our school target.  If every one of our 209 pupils and staff could walk a mile, this would allow us to state the claim that we walked to Kells and back!  To achieve the overall distance of walking a mile, during the week beginning Monday 22 November, each pupil will be taken by the teacher for a short walk around the playground perimeter. Walking around the playground perimeter once for 5 days and a final parade up the length of the school corridor, will total just over 1609 metres or 1 mile.  If every pupil can complete the 5 laps during the week, we will have completed the school target.
As a parent we ask you to allow your child to be sponsored to walk either each lap, or the complete mile.  Record your sponsorship on the card given to your child today and send the money into school after the event at the end of November.  Children should only approach people they know and not strangers or collect from door to door.  Money collected will be used to purchase resources in school. We are currently replacing 2 interactive classroom panels (digital classroom boards 75-inch wide) which will be costing the school over £5000.  Covid has restricted most forms of fund raising over these last two years and this walking initiative has many benefits.  Children will gain from the funds raised and also benefit from the wellbeing and physical exercise of taking a short brisk walk each day.
We hope you can support us and we will keep you informed of the progress, as we cover the miles to Kells and back whilst watching our funds grow.  Sponsorship cards will be distributed in school today or by the end of the week.
Yours faithfully
R McClelland

We would like to allow the children to acknowledge ‘Children in Need’ efforts
on Friday by having a non-uniform day and giving a 50p or £1 donation to the charity.  Pupils might want to wear something yellow or with spots, on the day.  Each classroom bubble will have a small collection box for their donations or alternatively parents may wish to donate straight to the charity.
Wednesday remains a non-uniform day until Covid restrictions are eased.

January will again see the applications for admission to school for the new Primary 1 in September 2021.  Under the current Covid restrictions, the opportunity to hold an open day is very difficult.  We would be keen to ensure that we have your details or those of other parents in the community, so that we can communicate Admissions arrangements as these become clearer.  If you have a child of school age who would be starting in September 2021 (Dob 2/7/16 – 1/7/17), please contact the school office on 028 2589 1265 to leave your details.  I would ask that you mention this to other friends and family, so that we have their contact information and can update them of the Admissions process for September 2021.

Current homework restrictions and the bringing into school of school bags will be reviewed again later in the term.  Congestion at the gate remains low and I appreciate how parents have responded to drop-off and collection time arrangements.  All the restrictions which have been put in place to keep school safe, will be reviewed again late in November, in response to PHA guidelines and the trends of Covid infection in the community.  I would encourage parents to read with pupils and to provide reading materials when at home.  Spellings and tables lists should continue to be reinforced at home by parents and guardians.

Christmas will be very different in school this term, as the children will not have a nativity performance or a visit to a pantomime.  Christmas dinner will happen in school early in December and we will seek to provide parties and experiences in school to celebrate Christmas.  All activities will adhere to the current classroom bubbles, which continue to curtail the spread of the virus, preventing absences from school for pupils and staff.

Finally, flu vaccinations have now been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday 18th November 2020.

Thank you for your support in all of these aspects during these difficult times.
